Staying on Track

I find that I do so much better with my eating and exercise when I am in a routine. In fact, when I first started to lose the bulk of my weight, I refused to do anything, I did not want to go out with friends or go on vacation, I was so worried about sabotaging myself. Looking back on that, it makes me sad, I probably missed some fun nights and good laughs by refusing to let myself enjoy a night or trip. I have really had to learn balance.

Realistically, it is hard to eat perfect every single day, especially when you are out of town. I have found the best thing for me to do when I am planning a vacation and I know good food will be involved, is to simply stay on track. I will enjoy myself to an extent, eating in moderation and enjoying what I really want, but I do not let myself go crazy, after all, I’ve changed my lifestyle!

Something else I have learned, and this is probably the hardest part, is to not beat myself up for enjoying a weekend or a “cheat.” Anything in moderation is fine, it will not sabotage your entire plan of weight loss or being healthy. Make the memories, enjoy yourself, but keep those goals in the back of your mind. Maybe pick and choose the meals you’re willing to splurge on or the ones you can stick to a healthy plan with. Having a goal, and a plan is NEVER a bad idea.
