What does the Bible say about Fitness?
How cool is it that God can be seen in every aspects of life all day everyday? I adore it, I love that even in my fitness goals and healthy body, he has a word for me.
1 Corinthians 6: 19-20 Or don’t you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself. For God bought you at a high price, So you MUST honor God with your body.
I would have to say, this is my favorite. The Holy Spirit dwells in your body if you have asked Jesus to live in your heart. In other words, treat your body like Jesus is living there! Why is this my favorite? It reminds me that God bought me, he purchased me, at the price of his life. He loved ME (and you) enough to buy us. If he loves us that much, shouldn’t we love ourselves enough to take care of our bodies?
1 Timothy 4:8 Physical exercise has some value, but spiritual exercise is much more important, for it promises a reward in both this life and the next.
Paul specifically says physical exercise has value. He recognizes it is not the most important, that our spiritual exercise should be first, but what a tie in of our physical and spiritual. I firmly believe, you cannot be your best spiritually and for the kingdom of Christ if your physical health isn’t valued, I think Paul thought the same thing, what a guy!
1 Corinthians 13: 27 Now all of you together are Christ’s body, and each one of you is a separate and necessary part of it.
We all have gifts and tools we can use for Christ’s Kingdom, he calls us to use those. How can you give your best if you don’t take care of yourself and put out your best everyday?
Ephesians 2:10 For we are God’s masterpiece.
God created YOU as a masterpiece. He looks on you with so much love, he can’t stand it. He looks at you the way Noah looks at Ally, the way guacamole looks at avocado, the way I look at hamburgers. We are his bride, he created us exactly how he wanted us. That motivates me to love myself as much as he loves me. Love yourself, take care of yourself.
