Life Lessons: Preparation
Reading: Exodus 2:11-25
Last month we saw what could have been the end of Moses’ story before it really had a chance to begin but we said there was a season of preparation coming in his life. God is in the business of using certain situations and seasons to prepare us for what’s ahead.
Now, you may be thinking, how is running away and hiding out with a bunch of shepherds preparation to lead a nation. Well, firstly shepherds are skilled at leading and caring for the stubborn. I once heard someone say that, “A sheep was the only one of God’s creatures looking for the quickest way to die.” There’s a reason why the Parable of the Lost Sheep in Luke 15 resonated with the people of the day. Sheep wander. Also, shepherds would have lived pretty rough when caring for their sheep. It would have been a far cry from the palace Moses had known for most of his life.
Could the Lord use a prince from a palace to lead his people? Yes, because He can work miracles but this season with his new family in Midian prepared him for the task ahead. Just as his time in the palace prepared him to return with a diplomatic purpose. He wouldn’t need an introduction. The Lord had arranged it all.
So the next time you feel like you are in a long season of waiting, no progress, failure or growth, know that the Lord might just be preparing you for your next big moment.
Today’s Prayer
Lord, I praise you for the seasons of preparation, even when they don’t feel good or make sense to me. Thank you for the answers that You already have planned and the love You have put into each.
